  • This book is particularly poignant today with so many remembrance and celebration ceremonies taking place in gratitude to those who gave 'above and beyond' during both world wars. This story - semi-biographical - follows the life of Lottie whose life spans the WWII years. It is the story of an ordinary family, and follows the trials and tribulations of their lives. Lottie is born into a comfortable family whose lives are turned by the events of war, family illness and death. Lottie herself serves as a WREN during which time she looses two fiancées to the war. The story follows her life before, during and after the war, bringing both tears and smiles. It is a cracking story, heart-warming and full of life. I read it in two sittings, loved it.
  • What a cracking read from cover to cover. Whether you lived through the period between the wars or not, the heroine of the story certainly was an innocent needing to be well armed for family life, love life as well as life as a Wren during WW2. I loved her captivating and sometimes humorous narration throughout - particularly her visits to her grandparents tailors shop in Brightons Lavender St. firstly as a small child and later on family visits. Living in Brighton myself as I now do I now find I am hoping to meet her at the bottom of North Street Portslade when I next drive by. She' s a fighter. I read this book and I loved her.

'Chaotic and Curious' by Lizzie Spence

lProduct Details

‘Chaotic and Curious’ has a selection of short stories direct from the imagination of Lizzie Spence, except for three which actually happened to Lizzie but have been written up in the third person. To give the stories some explanation Lizzie would say that we all lead different lives – some lives are touched by events that can be explained, are carried along as if they were on a roller coaster, stressful yes but with a positive outcome. This defines the ‘Chaotic’ stories in my book. Others lives are touched by events which cannot be explained, paranormal perhaps – this might include the loss of a loved one and certainly includes the spiritual – that strange feeling that we sometimes have that we are being looked after by our forebears. This defines the ‘Curious’ stories in my book. My stories are not frightening; I think they contain hope for all who live life. If my characters were to meet each other they would all find something to talk about, their lives having been touched by something which was worth reporting which is true of all of us. Their lives are demanding but interesting and often mystifying but they can seek explanations where there are some. ‘Chaotic and Curious’ is about people with demanding, interesting and sometimes mystifying lives where all my characters find their own way through life challenges. The story characters represent all age groups
